I'm a photographer or photo enthusiast; can I look at photographs in the archives?
Answer
We will not be able to show you anything from our fine print collection during your visit - other than what will be up for our exhibitions in our galleries.
We would be happy to have you visit the Study Center, but it's visiting is not like visiting a gallery. If you would like to visit, you must set up an appointment in advance. The Volkerding Study Center is open for a limited number of appointments Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Once you set up a research appointment, we ask that you do a bit of work prior to your visit: you will need to spend some time with the finding aids, select specific boxes that you would like to see (staff cannot choose boxes for you), and request those boxes at least two hours business hours (Monday through Friday from 9-5) before your visit.
We do not have the personal archives of all of the artists represented in CCP's fine print collection. There are original photographic items in the archives (negatives, contact sheets/prints, work prints, correspondence, etc.), and you will need to find them and request the specific boxes that you want. The focus of our work in the archives is to support research inquiries into our collections, and the finding aids are the guides to what you can choose to request for your visit. If you will only be here for two or three hours, we could pull up to three boxes for you. To see if there are things that you are interested in looking at, we suggest searching for the photographers who you are interested in from the main finding aid search portal, clicking through the links, and exploring the collections.
